Monday 6 July 2009

OK Welcome guys to the revamped "Animation in Motion" site

Welcome welcome, come in and have a seat, to the new blog!

I thought that since we have a long ass holiday we could catch up on old work and test out some tutorials and what not and post to this blog every day! I was gonna suggest we each put a pound (£1 or 2) and at the end get a tutor to pick the best, most improved work and the winner chooses a DVD from Gnomonworkshop.com . However we have to prepare for next term, some people might be away or work might be intense. My self and Orun have said we wanted to work on a comic, Bil said he's gonna do that also and I wanted to go over old work and get stuff finished.

So I thought we could just use this site to post work once aweek, it can be whatever or it can relate to what needs to be presented when we go back. That way we can help each other, offer advise and what not. the only thing we have to do is post once aweek, keep ourselves in the animation flow and keep in contact with fellow animators. If we are following a theme then we could decide it on a Sunday after the last submission of the week, for the following week. bearing in mind it can be any form: 2d, 3d, colored or special effects. This weeks theme (seeing as the week has already started) is "Toys" however u wanna interpretate it. I'm also going to open this blog up so you ALL can post ur work!

How's that sound? hit me up on my email if u got questions.

Next topic:
there are 2 contests going on at the mo, one is the "E4" 10 second Esting. This is what you need to know:

http://www.e4.com/estings/
Entry
1st Stage:
To enter this competition you must upload your E Sting to e4.com and fill out your details on the online entry form.
Only one entry per person or collaborative group will be accepted. If you submit any subsequent entries the judges will only consider your first entry.
Entries must be submitted by 4pm on Tuesday 25th August 2009.
Your E Sting must be exactly 10 seconds long and must be submitted in one of the following formats: wmv, mov, mpg, 3gp, mp4, mpeg. The file you upload must be no bigger than 20mb.
Your E Sting must include the E4 logo which can be downloaded from the entry page on E4.com.
This should be a good one so enter away!! Second is:

http://www.nick.com/animation-festival/index.jhtml?adfree=true

Have you got 15 seconds?
enter now until 8th of september

If you've got a great breakout funny character and can make us laugh in 15 seconds, you could win $5,000 towards creating a new 2 minute short with the one and only Nickelodeon Animation Development team.
Guys Please read all the submission guidelines, (as I didnt have time) as it is an international competition. U should be fine but read so u know whats up.

Ok guys and dolls, thats enough from me today, below is my submission for the week so far, because i got repairs and painting going on in my flat.

Later Gaters, peace out!!

This week and planning

Hey All!

We had a great productive meeting today. We discussed what needs to be completed and what is going to happen while we wait for the 3D animation to get going. Everyone is coming in tomorrow at 10 and sitting down with their "personal work" choosing characters who can be animated as the extra wave that comes out of the door. Then the rest of the time is spent on animating and compositing till the 3D arrives and we add sounds. Best thing to do is get in contact with Perrie, Natalie, Terry and Emmanuel who have been in and know what's happening. Tope is going to deliver a shot list to me tonight and Perrie is handing it out tomorrow. I am in LCC this week on Wednesday and Thursday so if you have any receips for me make sure i get them before Monday as then it is too late. I will pop in and see how everything is going. BTW there is no access on Friday so that should be schedueled work that you can take home.
Hope more people help out now as the holidays have arrived!

All the best,
Greet

Centroid 3D

Hi guys!

Thanks so much for coming today and making it a great day. I hope you learnt something new today and it sparked an interest in the project so you can now choose another role to help the completion process.

Please attend the Monday morning production meeting. Perrie will give out the "additional animation pack" with instructions for you to take away and make your masterpiece with complete artistic freedom. Also Tope will be handing out the production schedule for the rest of the weeks. Rob Tygner and I will go over what is needed for the production. Even if you haven't attended before come on Monday!!!

Have a Good Relaxing Weekend!!!

Live Shoot and Friday's Centroid day

First of all I just want to say what a great job everyone did on yesterdays live shoot. The next big thing is the Motion Capture shoot at Centroid. How's the CG character build coming along? We need to know asap if there are any problems there.

Regarding the "live shoot" video footage needed for the shoot at Centroid. I think I said all we need is the take you decide that is the good one. You'll also need all the reference footage of the box and Character Standin. This footage is important when matching the CG virtual camera with the "live camera".

Looking forward to Friday.
Well done!!!
Rob

MONDAY'S LIVE SHOOT.

Hi!

I hope you all know what you are doing and bringing for tomorrow's shoot. I will be there to assist but this is YOUR shoot and you run it. Please make sure you know what is expected of you (if not ask Tope) and I'll see you there tomorrow.
As I've understood so far we are meeting at 16.00 at Design for Graphic Communication Room D305.

Good Evening,
Greet

INFO FOR LIVE ACTION SHOOT.

Hey Everyone!

Thanks for that. That was a successful morning. Rob Buckler and Rob Tygner both were impressed and happy with what you presented. Sorry about the late start this morning as i know you have stuff to get done for your Lipsynch project.

If someone didn't get to come or didn't take notes this is what we talked about:

Technical issues with live action shoot- Most of this we covered like camera, format, lighting and the location and Milos ( live shoot mentor) has addressed the points.
ROLES- Anyone wanting to have a role in a particular field at the shoot please contact me or Tope.

List of Props/materials to bring to live shoot on the 9th March-
Stepladder
Contraption to open door with ( wire coat hanger)
White box with black stripes on it
White A3 sheet of paper
Stand In that is Life Size and can actually stand
Illustrations to dress the room inside the door
2 Lightboxes for the "class room"
Extension wire for the lightboxes
Gaffer Tape
(Please agree amongst each other who brings what to the shoot or nominate a person responsible for( not Tope) and if you buy something keep a RECEIPT)

List of Work done before Monday 9th ( please present to me work in progress on Friday 6th at 12.00 should take 30 minutes)

Animatic- Director Perrie, Editor Natalie etc.
3D Character- Emmanuel, Alexi, Paul etc( i want to see you have started it, doesn't matter how far you are)
CallSheet- Tope etc

I put "etc" for people whose names i don't know but want to work on these bits so please contact the people on this list and work it out with them.
Please note you still have the Weekend to do work on this so let me know if you don't think you need me to come in or I'm just wasting your valuable time. Also if there is something you think you could use Rob Tygner's help with please let me know and i'll arrange it for you.

Please send me files of the stuff you showed this morning and i will pass it onto Centroid 3D, tutors and other students.

Can't stress enough- I NEED TO KNOW WHO IS GOING TO THE CENTROID 3D SHOOT SO FILL IN THE SHEET WITH TOPE!!

Most importantly if you are lost or don't feel like you can handle it PLEASE let me or other members of your team know. This is a learning experience and therefore should be fun!

Good luck with your LipSynch project!

Let's get together!!!

Hey yall,

Can all the:
Storyboard artists
Character Designers
and Sculptors,
meet from 2pm in one of the spare rooms, to finalise designs for Wednesday's meeting with the Ident organisers and Skillset guy.

Also the main character (motion captured), will be a gremlin goblin type creature, so if the designs can be based around this it would be great, as we don't wont to worry about modeling hair or other difficult stuff. The other characters can be any thing as they will/ can be animated in different styles i.e. traditional, flash or stop motion.

Ok I'm off as hero's is on!!

UPDATES!

Ok yall,

Here's how its all going down.

  • Please click the title of each post, so you can go into that page and view all the comments which will be posted simultaneously below the actual post.
  • Tutors: author status has been opened so you can make posts
  • a poll is up to tally who wants to go to Pinewood Studios, maybe leave a comment to say who you are or ask any questions.
  • Job Roles and email details will be sent as an attachment via email, because of privacy issues
  • When Perry gets on the blog he will post or alternatively email out the Treatment.
Please remember can we all contribute any info and pics for the MOODBOARD ready for Monday, to present for Wednesday.

Last but not least if you buy any materials for this project i.e. paper, pens, glue, KEEP THE RECEIPT and you can get back your cash (us students need it for beer and comics!)

catch you later gaters...

Eeewww yuck

Eeewww yuck,
I'm sick, I have a yucky cold. But maybe its my body's way of saying

a: slow down
b: eat properly
or
c: what cold! man up and get on with stuff and don't find an excuse to slack!!

Anyway the meeting we had yesterday with the guy from the motion capture studio, was cool. We're on the right track, and this should be a great project.
Because I have 3 blogs (deviant art, natural-bella and my uni project one) I'm gonna copy and paste this into all of them as I'm too tired to be original.

Ok before I head off for a nap let me address some issues peps have been having:

  • Comments section will be amended so you can click a link of the post, it will appear in a new window and all comments will be listed underneath
  • sort out posting for organisers of this project via sign in and password
  • Job Roles and Email Contact list: A post or download will be enabled so everyone will be able to have others details, essential for working together. i.e. storyboarders linking up to work together on the story.
  • Posting or download of Treatment, made available asap.
  • Poll or Comment tally of all those who want to go to Centriod at Pinewood Studios.
For the last issue (see last issue above: Pinewood Studios), we need a total figure of who's going to the Motion Capture day. Here's a copy of what Greet sent me so you all have full details of whats coming up.

"I need the numbers for the people attending the Centorid 3D shoot at Pinewoods studio on the 13th of March, pretty much the HIGHLIGHT of this project.
It takes 1 and a half hours to get there and they want us there at 8 AM so it is really early morning start, which is normal for shoots.
I have money to pay for your travel so let me know who is coming but I can only pay for people who are taking part in the project. Also there is limited room so first come basis.
We would probably meet at LCC about 6 AM and then take the tube to Uxbridge. Then we would have to take a bus and we still need to take a little walk to the Studios.
We won't be waiting for latecomers and I don't want to spend my day on the phone giving you directions or looking for you. So lets all try to make this as painless as possible."
So I hope that clears some things up. I'll do them now and post info.

Cheers me dears (Achoo...... tries not to spread germs that her monkey kids gave her!!)
Tope.

Friday 27 February 2009

Mood Boards!

if everyone could spend some time to piece together a couple of images for 3 mood boards for Wednesday that would be great. there inst anyone who is specifically doing this at the mo but i thought as long as we could claim back the money we could get some nice presentation beards (that was meant to be boards but its to funny to leave out now) to mount them on.
  1. for the general indent inspiration (what Greet and Emma showed us on Wednesday in images)
  2. for the location ideas, Characters bursting out of the door, and possible textures and lightings to use.
  3. and one for the main (motion captured) characters ideas references(spite gremlin) and textures for the 3d people to reference with.
if everyone can keep an eye out for those thing we should be able to piece together enough reference points in the mood board for inspiration.
or if some wants to take charge of the mood boards then one person could colect all this stuff from everyone and structure it better.

P.s the treatment will be up soon storyboards!

thanks big shout out to my LCC massive peace.

Thursday 26 February 2009

I am not a quitter, I will not let this go till i've done it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

work!!!!!!

work

Important meet!!!

Tommorow Friday 27th,
Representatives from Centroid would like to meet some of us students. This would be really useful in regards to 3D scanning.  So that said could character designers and sculpters (especially) meet @ 2pm Southbank BFI, Pier 5  the banuga cafe.

See you there
tope.

So far......

Ok so I've subscribed all the people whose email addresses I collected. If you or anyone else from the group or other animation students (i.e. 2nd yr fda, 3d modellers or Puff, Panos or Bil) have not been subscribed please do so, so that you're always up to date with what's happening.
So summed up this is a 6 week "IDENT" project, we have to have a main mascot type character (motion captured)  and have LCC in there somewhere. If you have any questions about this project or need any help, please get in contact with Greet or emma via this blog (all comments are posted directly to them) or via email.

As we have a meeting next week Wednesday 4th of March, we need to have all the Character Designers, Sculptor's and Storyboard Artists meet up ASAP so they can get going with the character designs, turnarounds, models and storyboard.

The Ident synopsis will be available later today, as will the job roles and ideas.

Cheers me dears.
Tope

Start of the project!!!!

Ok so this is the start of the Motion Capture Project.
Most of the email addresses have been collected from FDA1, as have job roles and the main ideas for what we wanna do.
Hopefully by the end of the day everyone should have collected or be able to download pdf's of:

Full list of ideas for the project
Email addresses of all team members
and Job roles for everyone.

A treatment has been written and will be availible soon, so we can start on the character designs, turnarounds, sculpted models and storyboard in time for next week Wednesday's meeting.

Remember guys this is a great opportunity so choose your roles wisely, especially if you've got alot on. This looks wicked on your c.v, showreel and to potential employers.  (for next year work placement and future roles.) And with so many people signed up the work load can be shared.

Also there is a link on this blog to subscribe, if everyone can do this you will automatically be sent an email of info and news. so you can comment and easily keep everyone upto date wih whats going on with your own progress or if any help is needed.

Cheers me dears, catch you on the flipside.
